I’ve been seeing a lot of protests against the Stop Online Privacy Act and the Protect IP Act. Good! Both of these bills are infringements on the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States and would adversely affect anyone who, say, uses the Internet.

What’s cute, however, is that some of the people protesting are the same dolts who constantly call for “bipartisanship” in the government. That’s funny, because the bill has a lot of bipartisan support.

That’s right, you fucking idiots, you got exactly what you wanted. Or do calls for “bipartisanship” only apply if the opposition is in the way of something that you want?

Here’s an idea. Maybe SOPA and PIPA should only apply to people who want more “bipartisanship”. Don’t want SOPA and PIPA to clamp down on your Constitutionally-guaranteed rights? Then shut the fuck up about bipartisanship. People who want more “bipartisanship” are either the kind of brainless idiots who describe themselves as “moderate” and think that if only we got the right elected officials in power, everything would be okay. Or they’re complete and utter hypocrites.

I’ve also been seeing this link shared a lot: End Piracy, Not Liberty. Fuck that, don’t end piracy either. “Intellectual property” is not a valid form of property. It’s also a cute term, because it implies that sharing ones and zeroes across the Internet is theft. No, it isn’t, but I won’t get into that here.

I go to a university with a large student population. Thus, statistically speaking, it makes sense that there would be a large number of people on campus who dress questionably. Whatever happened to trying to look good when going out in public?

“Well, it’s comfortable.” This is the worst excuse ever for looking like shit. Clothes that look good aren’t uncomfortable, so this statement is meaningless. You want to know what’s uncomfortable? Your outfit, because it’s visually uncomfortable for everyone else, you selfish ass.

“Clare don’t judge people !!!!” Fuck that. I’ll judge people who don’t care how they look because first impressions matter. Not every look is acceptable. If you don’t care at all what others think of you, then you’re just a selfish douche.

Fedoras

I see too many douchebags who wear fedoras. This is the kind of shit that actually prompted this post. Fedoras are only acceptable on people with matching business suits, and generally this look only appears good on older people. I have news for the dickheads who wear fedoras with tees, jeans, and/or other non-dressy clothes: you look like a fucking idiot.

If you’re going to wear an article of clothing, use it in the right context. A fedora by itself doesn’t make you cool or edgy, you just look horrible. Don’t half-ass your look and then expect to get a good result. Seriously. Yes, I know that the fedora isn’t universally despicable. Don’t like this complaint? Then wear a goddamned suit with your fedora.

On a side note, fedoras should never be worn inside.

Ponytails on guys

If you like your hair long, then wear it down, because it looks better that way. If you’re a slob and can’t be bothered to ever get your hair cut, then by all means, please just stay inside.

Nerdy and/or anime tees

This is like a bulletin board broadcasting your status as a virgin and desire to remain so. Bonus points if the person is obese and/or clearly unwashed. It’s not funny or witty, so fuck you. It’s just stupid. You’re not a middle schooler anymore. And being a fan of something stupid isn’t something you should proudly proclaim to everyone. Even wearing these for the irony is questionable.

Uggs

The name says it all. These just look sloppy and, well, ugly. However, these are understandable in the winter, when dress is logically more utilitarian. They still suck, though.

Crocs

These shoes are bizarre and ugly and only acceptable if you’re working in a hospital. Fortunately, I don’t see too many of these in public anymore.

Flat-brimmed baseball caps

I can’t imagine these ever looking good. Bonus douche points if these are worn at bizarre angles and/or with the logo of a big-market team that the person couldn’t name more than five players on.

V-neck tees

I’m just kidding, I love these because they are the best HAHAHAHA FUCK YOU MICHAEL

I guess here is a list of some of my favourite bands that are kind of underground. If you enjoy great music, you should definitely check some of these out.

Causa Sui

Causa Sui are a Danish psychedelic rock band and describes their works as “free music”. Indeed! Causa Sui has some of the most amazing jams that I have ever heard. If you love psychedelia, long jams, infectious riffs, and amazing solos, you should definitely check out this band. Their early albums are more conventional, but the last three albums (Summer Sessions) are truly some of the most inspirational works that I have ever heard. Also, saxes.

Earthless

Earthless are an American psychedelic rock band with some of the best jams I have ever heard. Though they only have two studio albums, each contains of two insanely trippy twenty-minute long jams. With an incredibly solid rhythm section and brilliant guitarist, I absolutely recommend Earthless to anyone who loves great music. The riffs and solos are fantastic and it’s almost impossible to not repeatedly listen to this. This is damn good art.

Kamchatka

Kamchatka are a Swedish psychedelic blues-rock power trio. This band also has an incredible rhythm section with superb guitar, and the vocals are great too. This band is definitely one of the more accessible ones on my list, but I’ll be damned if their songwriting isn’t great. If you love blues-rock and psychedelia, this band would be great for you. Kamchatka also have a new album dropping soon, so keep an eye out.

Litmus

Litmus are a British “space rock” band. Their music can be described as incredibly psychedelic songs with very aurally-pleasant harmonised vocals. It’s pretty driven and fast-paced. This band is fantastic at creating an aesthetic where one feels like they are in space. I absolutely recommend them for anyone who loves both conventionally-structured pieces and long jams, since all of their albums contain both. Watch for the new album coming out this year.

Nebula

Nebula are an American psychedelic blues-rock power trio that spun off from the famed Fu Manchu after Eddie Glass left. Glass has some punk background and this explains some of the hard and fast-driven sound as well as the vocals, but he does a great job at creating fuzzy psychedelic jams. Unfortunately, Nebula disbanded recently, but their run was amazing. Many of their songs are pretty conventional in terms of structure, but they also incorporate long jams.

RotoR

RotoR are a German psychedelic and progressive rock band. A lot of their music is influenced by jazz structures and chord progression, and as such they are very unique. They have some great pieces and all of their works are interesting in that they do not follow a preset formula. I recommend listening closely to each individual piece, since this band is so unique and fun to listen to. Their songs don’t last especially long, but this doesn’t mean that they aren’t incapable of fitting several musical ideas into each one.
